COVID-19 is an illness caused by a newly identified type of coronavirus called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 or SARS-CoV-2. COVID-19 is easily transmitted from person to person in close contact through the respiratory droplets released by infected persons during coughing, sneezing, or even talking. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic in March 2020.

Below you will find information about the procedures and guidelines WCSD will use this year related to illness and COVID-19.

Please see updated guidance below. Effective 8-12-22.

We ask that the parent/guardian please monitor their child(ren) daily for illness. If your child(ren) is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
If your child presents to the health office during the school day with COVID-19 like symptoms, the health office will contact the family to discuss.

If your child is experiencing COVID like symptoms (that are NOT typical for them) we encourage them to be tested, see a healthcare provider for guidance or they can return after 24 hours if/when symptom free/fever free without the use of fever reducing medication. Other children in the home may attend school provided they do not have any symptoms of illness

If your child is COVID tested and tests:

1.  Negative: Your child may return to school with symptom improvement and be fever free for 24 hours for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Other children in the home may attend school provided they do not have any symptoms of illness.

2. Positive: Your child will need to stay home for 5 days from symptom onset and can return if/when symptom free/fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Health office staff will give you a return to school date. Other children in the home may attend school provided they do not have any symptoms of illness.
